- Of all the physiological phenomena which are the driving force behind the human body, childbirth is the one which demands the greatest adaptation by the body's tissues.
From the distensions which take place during pregnancy to the violence involved in giving birth, a woman's body is forced to adapt under duress, and often in a state of suffering.
This thesis, supplemented by numerous illustrations, analyses childbirth and associated phenomena from the perspective of osteopathy.
The first part comprises a clear study of the mechanisms involved in pregnancy and childbirth.
The second develops and analyses these mechanisms from the perspective of osteopathy, followed by a proposition involving the monitoring of the pregnant woman by the osteopath. This monitoring would be envisaged both before and during pregnancy.
The aim of the thesis is to bring together all the essential knowledge in this field, which will enable the osteopathy practitioner to have direct access to the basic elements necessary for a possible study of this subject or for the implementation of his "art".
